Seems like only a week ago that I was complaining about knitting a gigantic lace shawl....I take it ALL back. The work was totally worth it.
Pattern: Peacock Feathers Shawl from Fiddlesticks Knitting
Yarn: Jaggerspun Zephyr in peacock green, courtesy of Monkee
Needles: US size 3
Final Dimensions: 81" wide, 41" tall
What I learned: Blocking lace is magic!
Lots More Photos: See my finished object gallery!
The bad part about finishing this shawl is that I had to lie to my mother. I don't want her to know that I finished the shawl because she will expect to see photos. I don't want to send her photos because I just want to send her the shawl! So when she asked if I was done, I flat out lied and said that I wasn't and that it wouldn't be finished for a week. I'm so bad.

That kind of lying is totally acceptable! I would have done the same. I can't believe that you had to pin each of those little loops with a pin, that's totally crazy! In any case, the shawl looks absolutely fantastic! Congrats!
Oh. My. God. It is so beautiful. And I'm with Grumperina -- every single loop has a pin; it looks great, but you're insane! or just doing what's needed, I know. Congratulations again on finishing it!
Beautiful! Thanks for those detail shots too. Your mother is going to be thrilled.
Absolutely stunning. None of my daughters knit. Bummer for me.
Wowsa! That is magnificent. Your mother will wear it proudly.

stunning! a wonderful surprise for you mom.
I hope MY mom doesn't come across your blog, because I have never knit her anything so fantastic. Perhaps I should...this pattern would totally suit her. You have inspired guilt in me with your beautiful knitted gifts.
oh WOW Laura!!! fantastic job, to say the least
GORGEOUS! That crochet border came out absolutely perfect...
Just beautiful!
That's just incredible! Your mom is so lucky.
Stunning! Your mom is going to be thrilled.
It's lovely! Your mom is going to be so pleased. Now I can see I'll need to buy more pins for when I get around to doing mine.
Is this out of the cone Monkee had leftover?
It's beautiful. Just stunning. Your mother with love it!
Absolutely beautiful!
Gorgeous! I just started the Edging Charts on mine and I'm doing it in the same color/same yarn! I can't wait to finish mine and yours makes me want to finish even faster. Congratulations!
beeeeee-oooo-teeee-foooool!!!!

Gasp! (that's what I said when I clicked the link.) Wonderful work. It is beautiful.
WOW. I'm blown away by how gorgeous that is. Your mom is one lucky lady. Beautiful, beautiful work.
omg! that is absolutely gorgeous! I love peacock feathers (incidently, so does my cat. for different reasons) - I think I'm gonna have to make this (and hide it from said cat!)
out of curiosity, about how long did it take you to make it?

Man, that thing is gorgeous! Quite an accomplishment. Your mom will just die.
Gosh, you're mom will get quite a surprise!!
oooooooooooooo!
I hope mine looks half that nice! I'm just on chart 3 and its great to see these finished shawls looking so beautiful while mine is still all crumply on the needles! It's great motivation to keep knitting (and tinking...and knitting...)
I have the pattern and the yarn. I just haven't started mine yet! Yours came out gorgeous! Question: Did you use one whole ball of Zephyr or did you use several and have to join the yarn? I have two balls but know of a place where I can order the whole amount in one.
Oh wow. that is magnificent. Hmmm. It would be worth having more babies if one of them would grow up to be......a knit artist like you...
Wow.. just.. wow. Each time I see this finished I get inspired all over again. It's just BEAUTIFUL.
I know I've stumbled across this post 4 years after the fact ~ and never too late to say this is AMAZING!!!!!!
Yes! Gorgeous! I have been looking for a peacock pattern for some yarn I got years ago and the few I found did not cut it. This is fantastic! I have to dig into the stash so I can cast on. I was thinking about trying to make a pattern from Barbara Zimmerman's books where she gives you the foundation of the repeatable stitch. I am so excited. Your shawl is amazing, your mom is very loved to get such a great gift.
extremely pretty!!!
