Love, Love Changes Everything! *

I am overwhelmed! I can’t believe how many comments Scout’s sweater received. I tried to thank each of you personally for your comment, but I couldn’t find blogs or email addresses for all of you. So, if I haven’t thanked you yet, THANK YOU! Scout thanks you, too.

I’ll now confess that part of the reason why I knit a sweater for Scout was that I had lost almost all desire to knit. It was all Lotus’s fault. I felt like I needed to finish it, but I couldn’t bear to knit it either. So I didn’t knit anything and I was sad. Scout’s sweater was intended to be something to lift my knitting spirits. I think it helped me on the road to recovery. Lotus is hereby banished to the “deal with it later” corner of the yarn room.

But still, I needed something to get me really excited about knitting again. And then it happened. I saw THIS:

Morrigan.jpg

I first saw it on Wannietta's blog and nearly swooned. How could I not love that sweater? Cables, cables, and more cables. And it looks so HARD. Seriously, my heart started racing when I saw that photo for the first time. Moments later, I ordered the book (No Sheep for You) and began shopping for yarn. Happily, I found some pinky lavender Calmer on sale at Janette’s Rare Yarns. But hmm…that’s still a lot of money for one sweater.

MorriganYarn.JPGSo I did what I always do before I spend a lot of money: I called Peter for “permission.” (I’m not really asking for permission, because I’ll still spend the money if I really want to, but I feel better if Peter knows about my big purchases before I make them. So don’t think I’m some sort of oppressed woman who isn’t allowed to do anything without her husband’s stamp of approval. In fact, Peter has told me that I don’t have to check in with him all the time. I do it more for my peace of mind than for his.)

Anyway, as usual, Peter laughed at me and told me to go ahead and get the yarn even though it was for another pink cabled sweater. (At least he’s learned that one can never have too many pink cabled sweaters.) However, he said, I had to make HIS vest first. Oops. Forgot about that. Some time ago, Peter had picked out the Gray Cabled Vest from Men Who Knit & the Dogs Who Love Them and I had recently purchased the yarn to make said vest.

So what does a knitter who is obsessed with pink cabled sweaters do while she’s waiting for her pattern and her yarn to arrive? She knits a vest for the man she loves:

Well, it’s not done yet, but it’s getting there. You’re seeing about a week’s worth of knitting. I’d say that I got my knitting mojo back, wouldn’t you?

* Bonus points if you know where those words are from.

Isn't Morrigan like the most gorgeous sweater ever? I found some Calmer in Tangerine on sale that I scooped up for it. :)

My fave ALW song. I've always wanted to see the show, too, but never have had the chance.

Ha! I always have to tell my husband (who's also a Peter) when I am spending a big chunk on yarn, too. He doesn't care either, but it makes me feel better :-)

I love that sweater, I just spied it the other day on the Knitty blog and now I am dreaming of it and also possessing the skills to make it. One day...

Having to wait while you finish Peter's sweater will make starting your new "pinky" even sweeter.

I have been coveting that sweater since its appearance on Wannietta's blog too but given the excesse of sweater quantities of yarn in the stash, the cost of Calmer, and the fact that I do actually need to finish my phd at some point and graduate, I've had to hold off. :( At least now I can have the vicarious pleasure of watching you knit yours! (Especially since I would have picked that same shade of calmer. :) )

Yep, you're back in your groove. I might be the queen of colorwork, but you are the queen of cables.

The vest looks wonderful! I can to see your sweater; the pattern looks beautiful!

I would say that your willingness to whip out a gray sweater for Peter and his willingness to encourage your insane pink cabled sweater habit reflect some of the very best possible aspects of love.

(That was harder to work into a sentence than I thought.)

Well, if I had read this prior to going to stitch and bitch I wouldn't have had to ask you if you like musicals!

Go you on the vest! It looks great and it's probably a good thing your yarn isn't here yet ;) Glad your mojo is back! :)

I was wondering when you were going to comment on that sweater - I thought it looked like something you'd like! I like Peter's gray cabled vest. Do you always knit both fronts at once? It makes a lot of sense to me to do that, but for some reason, I haven't yet.

Okay I want that book....and what is wrong with only knitting pink cabled sweaters? I know that knitting slump...put lotus away for a while you'll feel like knitting her again one day

did you use that post title just to get me to comment? :) Aspects of Love, of course!

i'm sorry i did not express my admiration for Scout's new outfit before. but now i can say that i am impressed at how much knitting you can accomplish in just one week! i am in awe! and your new pink cabled sweater looks really cool, so forget about Lotus for now and make with the pretty!

Way to get your groove back! Love the vest, and my heart also stopped when I saw that cabled sweater. I'd told myself I wouldn't pick up yarn for another sweater until Rhinebeck, but you're testing that resolve!

That is a gorgeous cable sweater! And in Calmer!!! I love the vest you are knitting for Peter too.

I'm not sure what that quote is from, although it kind of sounds like a line from Moulin Rouge.

Gorgeous sweater! And yummm, calmer. I think I'm buying myself some of that yarn for my birthday--that way I don't have to feel (too) guilty!

I think I need that sweater and might even have the perfect yarn for it!
Peter's vest is also gorgeous.

Sometimes, one just needs a break...for me, it's usually cables that drive me to the brink. :)

What yarn are you using for the vest? It looks wonderful!

I'll say you got the mojo back...! ;-)

It looks fantastic. Now I want to abandon the He Gansey from No Sheep that I've planned to knit for my DH and do a cable pattern instead. SIGH.
