Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

Jo took off her bonnet, and a general outcry arose, for all her abundant hair was cut short.

“Your hair! Your beautiful hair!” “O Jo, how could you? Your one beauty.” “My dear girl, there was no need of this.” “She doesn’t look like my Jo anymore, but I love her dearly for it!”

As everyone exclaimed, and Beth hugged the cropped head tenderly, Jo assumed an indifferent air, which did not deceive anyone a particle, . . . rumpling up the brown bush and trying to look as if she liked it.

--Louisa May Alcott, Little Women

Ever since I first read that passage as a young girl with waist-length hair, I’ve wanted to sell or donate my hair for wig making. The last time that I went from very long hair to very short hair, I inquired about donating my hair, but could not find information about it. (That was before everything-you-need-to-know-and-some-things-you-don’t was on the Internet.)

BEFORE

AFTER

AfterFront1.jpg AfterBack1.jpg

I did not cry, though my heart was racing and I was trembling when I felt that first cut of scissors. My agony was prolonged because the hair was cut in three fat ponytails which each took the hairdresser a long time to hack through. It did not help when the hairdresser in the next station looked over and yelled, “OH MY GOD!!!”

And the hair? It’s on its way to Locks of Love.

Wow! That's a radical change. But I like it!

That's some seriously nice hair someone is going to get!

The short hair looks really good on you! It'll be a change I bet, but someone will love to have your hair!

I think it looks really great! Perfect for this hot humid summer we will likely be having!

It's really funny, besides you, I've known two other chicks who've donated hair to Locks of Love recently.

looks absolutely wonderful! and i love that feeling during the first shower, and the zero amount of time it takes to dry. it also feels really really funny because it is so light!

The haircut is adorable! And the hair you gave away looks so shiny and healthy. What a wonderful thing to do!

Seriously very pretty, fresh and summery. And it's a very kind act donating all that gorgeous hair to Locks of Love.

Oh Laura, how could you? Your one beauty.

Cute haircut! I bet you feel lighter too.

Okay, okay, I guess a huge change like that deserves more than a smart-ass comment. I love your new look! It's very flattering on you. I just wished you'd offered your hair to me before donating it to some good cause -- I would have made myself a Laura wig and then we could have totally twins!

TOO creepy? Have I crossed a line?

If you want me to take care of the Rachel-stalker, please let me know. I'll call in the authorities.

And the haircut looks great! I've had that exact same haircut and I've always loved it. Good for you donating to Locks of Love!

I love the new haircut, it is so cute and your head looks so much lighter! :) Also, I got my yarn when I got back to my parents' house last night and I'm already itching to cast on. Thanks again!

You look absolutely lovely! With long hair or short, it doesn't matter. I think donating your hair was an awesome thing to do.

Oh, your haircut is so cute!! (I did that recently & hate the style they gave me.) Gorgeous, & lucky LoL; three thick pony tails of beautiful hair like that will be so helpful.

I love the new haircut - it's very flattering to your face. And you'll love short hair in the summer, believe me.

What a huge adjustment for you! Your new haircut looks great on you, and I know there is someone who is going to really appreciate what you did.

If not, please send your hair to me so I can do extensions. Mine is so fine that even if I could grow it super long, Locks of Love would say, "thanks for the thought, but..."

OH MY GOD!!!

I didn't know about locks of love when I cut off my bum length hair to shoulder length (a few weeks after handing in my PhD...it was all graduate school hair as I hadn't 'cut' it seriously since I began 5 yrs earlier). People who knew me as a grad and haven't seen me since don't recognise me...sometimes at conferences it is better that way (they're usually the ones I've tried to avoid since graduating).

but enough about me...you look CUTE!!!!
